Squash Blossoms Tempura

Tempura squash blossoms with sweet chili dipping sauce

What a quick and simple bite from a beautiful source. The squash blossoms made a tender lite bite that carries a delightful squash flavor.

There are two flowers of the squash blossoms. You want to choose the male blossom that has no growing squash attached. the female will have a new squash growing to its bloom and we want those to grow untouched.
Blossoms can be stored in a wet
paper towel in refrigeration for up to three days. When picking inspect for small bugs that might be hiding inside

Tempua batter

  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 12-16 oz lite beer, club soda or my favorite berry sparkling water
  • Tsp kosher salt
  • Pepper

Mis well and lightly roll blossom to cover shaking off excess

Carefully lay into hot canola oil. Deep fryer is not needed. Fry pan with oil to cover pan is good and keeps it simple.

Cook until brown on all-sides.
